Virginia Hiway, Inc. Becomes VHI Transport

Since its inceptionin 1977, the Richmond VA firm headed by David Gee, CTB has been known as Virginia Hiway, Inc. Its reputation and financial stability are well known in the industry. Yet the firm has changed its name in 2003, to VHI Transport.

Chief Financial Officer Bruce Gee stated, "We’re proud of our name and the reputation behind it. It has served us well for 25 years. In this 21st century, however, there are logistical reasons to change the name."

Gee explained that the scope of service of the firm is national and international. The old name gave the impression that the firm only served Virginia. The firm moves freight by various modes, not just across the highway. Dispatchers are plagued daily with phone calls from people trying to reach the Virginia Highway Department. E mail messages with "highway" spelled traditionally did not reach the firm, because of their unique spelling of the word. The Internet turns down searchers looking for Virginia Hiway, Inc. who spell "highway" traditionally.

The name change to VHI Transport was handled for Virginia Hiway by Petrick Outsourcing Unlimited, Inc. of Woodstock, VA. The firm specializes in marketing and management consulting for transportation companies.
